Who are you?
We are a group of clergy and clergy family who are concerned about the lack of meaningful pension provision in the Church of England. We are both active and retired clergy, stipendiary and non-stipendiary, family and beneficiaries.
What are you looking to achieve?
At a bare minimum, clergy pensions need to be restored to pre-2011 levels. The current level of pension provision (1/2 national stipend, earned over almost 40 years of contributions) is not enough to support someone in retirement, even with the state pension on top. For many retired clergy, they cannot even afford housing from the pension they receive from the Church of England, let alone the other basics of life. If a stipend plus housing is defined as the minimum clergy need to live on, why are we leaving our retired clergy in such a parlous state after decades of service and sacrifice?
What are you doing to improve clergy pensions?
On the 13th of March 2025, the Church Times published a letter signed by over 700 clergy, calling for urgent action. We will be following this up with a number of actions over the coming months.
How can I get involved?
Join the Facebook Group and sign-up to our mailing list. This is the first port of call to join with other clergy and pension beneficiaries. As we grow we’ll share new ways to take action.
